10 South Summit success stories

Did anyone say there was no talent in the South? Although it has taken a little time, and we had to make a lot of efforts, we can already say that the entrepreneurial ecosystem in Spain is well established. Specifically, 91% of the finalist startups in all South Summit editions are still active and have raised more than a billion dollars in funding to this day. Additionally, there were numerous exists with different leading companies in their sectors.

 Some of the most relevant startups of the last editions of South Summit, which have achieved recognized success after their presence at the event are:

1. AKAMON: the social games company was a finalist in 2013 and, after achieving success in the national market, decided to cross the Atlantic to become part of the Canadian entity Imperus Technologies in 2015 for $23.7 million dollars. 

2. Cabify: the urban mobility leader created in 2011, whose value has already reached 1.4 billion dollars, became the first unicorn "made in Spain"". They have just announced a new round of funding of 160 million dollars, the largest in their history and one of the largest ever recorded among Spanish startups. They made other ones in 2016, raising 120 million dollars, and in May 2017, with 100 million dollars. 

3. Drivy: renting a car can be quite tedious. This is why Drivy was created, Europe's leading platform that brings drivers and car owners together, making the process faster and cheaper. This year they are going to carry out a capital increase of 35 million dollars and since its creation in 2010 in France it has accumulated 47 million dollars in financing. 

4. Glovo: "Whatever you want, delivered in minutes" is the motto of the revolutionary delivery services application that raised $36 million a few months ago. In addition, the 2016 South Summit finalist closed a round of financing at the end of last year for 30 million euros, with Rakuten and Cathay Innovation as their main investors. 

5. Habitissimo: born with the purpose of helping people to live in a better house, Habitissimo created a platform that allows the professionals of reforms and repairs to connect with the individuals who demand them. Although born in Palma de Mallorca, in February 2017 70% of the company was acquired for more than 20 million euros by the British company HomeServe. 

6. Job and Talent: the app that not only helps you find a job, but creates it. It started in 2009 and in less than 3 years was able to raise more than 67 million euros, even succeeding in seducing Atomic, the fund led by the co-founder of Skype. In 2016 they turned their business model into a 360 degrees strategy.

7. Logtrust: they saw in Big Data the great business opportunity to create a software that allows companies of any size to have advanced levels of security and data analysis, making it possible for anyone to compete with the "big shots" of the market. In 2017, it closed two rounds of financing, one at the beginning which was for $11 million, in which Kibo participated, and in the second one led by the North American investment fund Insight Venture Partners and Kibo, it obtained $35 million. 

8. Spotahome: Since its foundation it has transacted more than 71.1 million dollars in contracts generated in three years only. A finalist at the South Summit in 2016, this platform was created to remove barriers in renting a home. Since its foundation, it has closed four rounds of finance with a total income of almost 25 million dollars, the last was at the end of 2017 when it obtained 13.6 million euros to strengthen its presence in the countries where it operates and invests in technological development. 

9. Typeform: created in 2013, they have revolutionized the Internet survey market. It has established itself as one of the technological startups with the greatest potential in Europe, so much so that in September 2017 it received a round of funding of 35 million dollars led by General Atlantic. 

10. Uniplaces: dedicated to student accommodation booking services and founded in2011, they think that nothing like a good adventure will provide moments that last forever, such as studying in another country. Considered by Techtourgrowth50 as one of the most valuable companies, its first round of financing was achieved after the first year with 200,000 euros, the next in 2014 with 3 million euros and the last was in 2015 with 21 million euros and in which Atómico participated.
