At this year’s South Summit we’ve got some really exciting talks on women in tech. Over a century ago women were at the forefront of computer programming with inspirational figures like Ada Lovelace and Grace Hopper programming some of the first computers. 

Advertising in the ‘80’s made computers ‘boys toys’ but today the opportunities for women in tech are continuing to grow. 

In a CrunchBase report on women in venture capital, it was found that just 7% of global VC partners were women. It’s a possibility that male VC’s may subconsciously see projects and pitches from other men as being more persuasive. Increasing the number of female investors has the potential to increase the number of female-led startups being invested in. 

Brigette Baumann, founder and CEO of Go Beyond Investing, is one of nine lead investors on the all female Rising Tide investment programme. 

“We’re delighted to be developing new models to approaching angel investing and building diversified portfolios”, Baumann says of the project. 

This investment group made up of over 90 women have pooled over €1m euro to be invested in 6-10 early-stage European companies. It has been developed to increase women’s participation in angel investing as an asset class with EBAN, Go Beyond Investing and Next Wave creating this first of its kind learning and investment programme. 

Making successful women in tech visible helps younger women see that there is a path for them in one of the fastest growing professions in the world.
